Amy Zerner's portrait
Amy Zerner: The many talents of a remarkable woman
BPP: If you could say something important to others
who were listening, what would you tell them?
By looking within, we can identify our special
dreams, learn how to develop our personal creative power, make our base secure,
and our dreams real. This crusade is not
a selfish one. It is the only one
justifiable in our time. Creativity is
spirituality. By realizing and
actualizing our creativity we become a spiritual human being, a most glorious
occurrence.
A world populated by such people can only make a paradise of our planet, a dream of the ages that is not only technologically possible at this time, but is crucial to our survival as a species.

BPP: Identity: Who are you? And who you really are?
Amy Zerner: I am a
collage artist, and I live in East Hampton, NY. I worked with many materials,
fabrics, trims, and embellishments. As a designer and an author for over 30
years, I have always been drawn to multi-cultural myths. My talents
became rooted in the healing process of envisioning wearable art pieces of
jewelry and fashion that can protect and affirm, so I incorporate traditional
spiritual stories and symbols to convey those qualities. I have studied
metaphysics for several decades and have written many popular books and oracles
with my husband, Monte Farber, so there is a lot of meaning in my designs. We
have sold 2.000.000 books in 14 languages.

I show
my one-of-a-kind fashions at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. All of my pieces are made
with love, creativity and innovation to accentuate the beauty of the woman’s
true essence, designed to evoke magical powers to lift one’s spirits and
flatter one’s figure. Combining line, texture and form, metaphysics, plus my
gift for intuitive readings of people, I work to create power pieces that
embody dreams and magic.

Amy Zerner: Peace
begins when expectations end.
BPP: What is
your true dream, the one that keeps you up at night and if one day it were to
come true you would feel peace and calmness in your heart?
Amy Zerner: My husband Monte Farber and I have
been extremely fortunate in being able to find and live our «bliss» together. We are both passionate about
bringing spiritual insights, art, creative solutions and intuitive messages to
a world that so obviously needs it.

BPP: How is life currently for the people in your
country and what would you wish for them and for the planet at large?
Amy Zerner: We live in The Now Age; everything has to be done now.
Cell phones, fax machines, computers, beepers, and the Internet have destroyed
the cushion of time that used to enable us to thoughtfully consider our
situations. Now information overload overwhelms and family life seems all but
impossible. How can we find and stay on the path to a life of quality and
meaning in The Now Age? How can there be time to pray when there’s hardly time
to play? We wish for people to be more tolerant of others, more empathetic,
less judgmental. To be more mindful of their thought processes. Thoughts are
powerful, both positive & negative.
BPP: If you had a chance to be a child again would you
choose the same life?
Amy Zerner: YES! As a
child I lived in the country. I was encouraged to be in touch with nature and,
as a result, I became a gatherer of magical bits and pieces of rocks, shells,
and dried flowers, which I would incorporate or sew into my early artworks.
Since I was little, I was encouraged to be in touch with my mystical side. Even
now, each time I create a piece of art, I sing into it, or “enchant” it to help
further empower it’s healing gifts. This attention and respect makes both the
art and the artist happy.
BPP: What was
the exact moment that you realized what you wanted to do with your life? How did you feel at this very moment?
Amy Zerner: My first
memory is sitting on the knee of my maternal grandfather, Clayton Spicer,
painting leaves on the trees of one of his paintings. “Claytie,” as we called
him, was a masterful painter who had studied at The Art Students League in New
York City with Robert Henri, author of The Art Spirit and the founder of the
Ashcan School of American art.
My mother,
Jessie Spicer Zerner, also an artist and children’s book illustator, told me
that she never had to worry about me being a bored or lonely child because I
was quite content to be alone and, though she was always coming up with
projects for us to do together, I was also happy to sit by myself and draw,
color, paint, do crafts.
For this
and many other reasons, I cannot think of a time when I did not think of an
artist.
I count my
blessings!
