Redd Walitzki: " I love art, because I think good art can do that. It can be a subtle way to communicate with others, without having to preach to them or argue."
BPP: Who are you? And who you
really are?
Redd Walitzki: I'm Redd Walitzki, fine artist, maker of things, and manic pixie from
Seattle, WA. My veins are full of glitter and my head is full of wonder...

BPP: If you could say something important to others who were listening,
what would you tell them?
Redd Walitzki: Make! Make something today, anything, just go do it! The world would be
a better place if all of us embraced our creativity a little more. There's
nothing more empowering than the feeling that you added something new to the
world.

BPP: What is your true dream, the
one that keeps you up at night and if one day it were to come true you would
feel peace and calmness in your heart?
Redd Walitzki: My art is what keeps me up at night - the little bits of inspiration
that will grow into something crazy and wonderful down the road. I feel like
I'm one of the lucky few, in that I am living my dream. I get to spend most of
my time right now pursuing my art, and that's incredibly amazing to me.

BPP: How is life currently for the people in your country and what would
you wish for them and for the planet at large?
Redd Walitzki: Life in the United States right now is definitely more difficult than it
used to be, and it is a sad and hard thing to watch. I was born in Germany and
moved here as a child, but I was old enough to have experienced both, and still
travel back and forth sometimes. So often, it feels like I'm on the outside
looking in for both cultures. I can see what is fantastic about both, and also
where people are struggling.
My wish would be for people to set down some of their preconceived
notions, and really try to look at the big picture. But I love art, because I
think good art can do that. It can be a subtle way to communicate with others,
without having to preach to them or argue. A good piece of art can get under
your skin and make a difference.

BPP: If you had a chance to be a child again would you choose the same
life?
Redd Walitzki: As a child, and even now, I've lived a lot of my life through fantasy.
The escape of storytelling, of reading or watching movies and plays. The escape
of painting, or building other worlds with dolls.
For the most part I had a really great childhood and a very stable
growing up. If I were to do it all again, I think I would really just love the
chance to experience a thousand more stories I didn't get to this time around.

BPP: What was the exact moment
that you realized what you wanted to do with your life? How did you feel at this very moment?
Redd Walitzki: I never had a eureka! moment where I suddenly knew what I wanted. From a
very young age I was always drawing, painting or making things. It wasn't
something I chose, it was something I did. But when it was time for me to go to
college, I fought really hard to study art, and to become an artist. Pretty
much everyone advised me that it was a bad idea, but I knew it was the only
thing I wanted.
Now I often have moments where I look around at what I'm doing and get a
big grin on my face when I realize just how fantastic what I get to do is.
Those are the best projects for me, the ones that make me feel like a little
kid full of glee.
