Patricia Van Lubeck: Fine Artist - Tauranga, New Zealand

Patricia Van Lubeck: "Dreams play quite an important roll in the conception of my works. The moments between deep sleep and awakening often produce the surreal elements I use in my paintings"

BPP: Who are you?  And who you really are?

Patricia Van Lubeck: Patricia Van Lubeck, I am really just a girl from Amsterdam.

BPP:  What is your true dream, the one that keeps you up at night and if one day it were to come true you would feel peace and calmness in your heart?

Patricia Van Lubeck: Dreams play quite an important roll in the conception of my works. The moments between deep sleep and awakening often produce the surreal elements I use in my paintings.

BPP: How is life currently for the people in your country and what would you wish for them and for the planet at large?

Patricia Van Lubeck:In New Zealand we are pretty much tucked away in a far corner of the world. Most global events don't impact us very directly. So life is pretty laid back for most people. In my town everyone has a boat and goes out fishing in the weekends. So I wish everyone a safe journey.

BPP: If you had a chance to be a child again would you choose the same life?

Patricia Van Lubeck: In my next life I hope to return as a cat. We have recently adopted a family of 3 stray cats and I envy them very much.

BPP:  What was the exact moment that you realized what you wanted to do with your life?  How did you feel at this very moment?

Patricia Van Lubeck: An exhibition about dazzle painting and ship camouflage inspired me to decorate my first car with a similar paint treatment. After 2 weeks and hundreds of rolls of masking tape, every inch of my 1975 green Opel Kadett was covered in stripes. Other motorists loved and hated the car in equal measure; their general reluctance to come too close blessed me with expansive parking spots.
I credit this first foray into car striping as the event that transformed me from a bookkeeper into an artist.

BPP: Would you like to tell us something we didn’t ask until now?

Patricia Van Lubeck:Travel! (lightly).
