Paulette Goodreau: "The way of success is not paved with gold but with mistakes"
BPP: Who are you? And who you really are?
Paulette Goodreau: I am a
perpetual movement. And my radius of move resides in art, for someone active as
I am, it means that I am a painter, a sculptor, a dollmaker, drawer, inventor
of new toys, therefore an inventor of new ways and devices to dream. I keep
moving, and do my best to do it forward, always.
My life
professionally and privately is ruled by obligations, these responsibilities
are very important as I think that the way you handle and take them, is the
reflection of what kind of human being you are. It can be heavy sometimes as a
migraine, but instead of taking an aspirin I usually take a good laughter to
compensate as it tastes much better!

BPP: If you could say something important to others who were listening, what would you tell them?
Paulette Goodreau: The way of
success is not paved with gold but with mistakes. The only thing you have to do
is to never walk on the same one, and learn how to find new mistakes on your
path; it means you are evolving and improving. There's a lesson to learn in
every step we make from the littlest to the greatest of them.
We mustn't
think about our little selves individually but from a global point of view, for
what we do has repercussion on so many levels and this, all around the world;
we must change our way to see thing and enlarge the most we can our horizon of
thinking.

BPP: What is your true dream, the one that keeps you up at night and if one day it were to come true you would feel peace and calmness in your heart?
Paulette Goodreau: My dream is for
everyone to wake up and realize that we must all be hand in hand, to share our
resources and knowledge to end poverty and war all around the world. We must
understand that we own nothing on this planet, we just steward as we only pass on
that earth. We must know that we don't own earth but that we belong to it. I
think that all lives must be respected as we'd want our to be respected.
Animals shouldn't be allowed to be BOUGHT, for we never own our pet but have
the responsibility to take care of them as they are our loyal companions, they
help us, love us; it is a partnership as friendship is. So we must change our
state of mind to stop loving things we don't need and love lives just next to
us that this lust of possession hides from our sight. For this reason I am also
a vegan and all my 14 pets are rescues.

BPP: How is life currently for the people in your country and what would you wish for them and for the planet at large?
Paulette Goodreau: I am American therefore I consider myself as a lucky person for life is sweet in my country; even for the non richer ones; for we do not have to walk 7 miles barefoot to find water everyday. Recession is now ending, and even if people are restless because of it, we are still on the lucky side.

BPP: If you had a chance to be a child again would you choose the same life?
Paulette Goodreau: Do you mean
that I am not a child anymore?!!
Life can be
changed anytime, but again, if you want your life to change, you have to work
for this and to make decision which involves new responsibilities that you must
take. But wherever my path will lead me, I will always be an artist, of course.

BPP: What was the exact moment that you realized what you wanted to do with your life? How did you feel at this very moment?
Paulette Goodreau: I am
fascinated by that very moment when things will never be the same. The second
when something happens which makes everything changed. I don't think though,
that there's a moment in your existence when you say " Oh yes! I finally
want to be an artist!" Being an artist is something that lives in the core
of your being since your first cry, it just sometimes takes time for you to know
that you are an artist. The incredible validation from the public towards my
dolls has been the greatest welcoming in the dollworld and I feel like being an
active part of it. I am thankful for every kind word I receive from my
collectors for it gives me the will to always do better to thank and satisfy
them.

BPP: Would you like to tell us something we didn’t ask until now?
Paulette Goodreau: Yes : You
didn't ask the best word to describe me and the answer is " a
workaholic."
