BPP: Identity: Who are you?  And who you really are?

Italia Ruotolo: Nice to meet You ! I'm Italia Ruotolo, Italian  painter artist and creative mind in general. Well, I hope to match between what I am (do) and what I“really” am, namely the purpose of art is precisely to expres themselves without mediation or  falsehood. Art is the core of my existence, everything turns around it, further more it gives me the opportunity to challenge myself every day, to make sense of the elapsing time: when you see a painting  grow under your hands from day to day is like watching a child grow, a feeling that could fill your life.

I am a soul in constant movement toward a point of light that budges and hides continuously,  so I'm a nomad deep inside. I live a objective life  neat and regular ,due to the fact of painting many hours a day every day , inwardly however, everything is in constant motion as I’m  devoured by  the thirst to know and show the magic behind the things. At the end what leads me to paint is just to figure out which is the true energy that keeps us alive.

BPP: If you could say something important to others who were listening, what would you tell them?

Italia Ruotolo: Everything we do, let's do it with love, all the time spent without loving it  is wasted time!

BPP:  What is your true dream, the one that keeps you up at night and if one day it were to come true you would feel peace and calmness in your heart?

Italia Ruotolo: My true dream would be to have an infinite amount of time with no restrictions in order to pursue my artistic life and my affective life. Often the artist is seen by others as a person self centred on his inner world, absorbed mostly by the artistic search than by affection . This is because the artist is a kind of temporary container between heaven and earth, a flow tube between inspiration and implementation, when you have an idea in your mind it is impossible to resist, all becomes frantic until you materialize it... so everything in your life is postponing to an unspecified "after ".  In the meanwhile you are mentally absent even when you are physically present ... my dream would be to devote myself more to the others .

BPP: How is life currently for the people in your country and what would you wish for them and for the planet at large?

Italia Ruotolo: In last years, life in Italy has progressively got sadder, people are tired and disappointed by the politician's squabbles. The emperor is naked now, political power has proven to want to think only of itself and has  left the country to its fate. It is not so much the lack of money that languish the Italians but the loss of hope in  better prospects. Young people accuse politicians of having stolen their  future. I wish that the humankind of the future, perhaps a very far future, does not have to need  politic.

Perhaps we humans are at  developmental stage of childhood, so we still  need to be guided by someone, but when we will grow as adults anyone will be responsible for himself in relation to the others. I think the  exercise of free will is the only dignified way to go on, so that an human being can be really achieved!

BPP: If you had a chance to be a child again would you choose the same life?

Italia Ruotolo: Absolutely not, I would not choose the same life but would choose the same goals namely make art ! I would  not let my path setted by  anyone, but I would follow my instincts , because (now I know) it  has never failed. Nobody can know you well enough to determine what is the best for you.

BPP:  What was the exact moment that you realized what you wanted to do with your life?  How did you feel at this very moment?

Italia Ruotolo:There wasn't  an “ exact” moment in which I chose one route rather than another. I was born with the instinct to make art and actually I have never considered the question of having to live by another way .I come from a family of artists, it was natural for me to hold the pencil as soon as physically possible and once I realized that pencil gave me the ability to create worlds I never abandoned  it ... it's a kind of mystical pagan rapture !

BPP: Would you like to tell us something we didn’t ask until now?

Italia Ruotolo: All of us living on earth at this definite moment we are connected  each one to each other by a net of thoughts , feelings and vibrations that, even if we don't know us in person, unites all as the different notes making  up the symphony ... to think about this makes me love  immensely life and  world !

Italia Ruotolo's sketch for BPP

Italia Ruotolo was born in Naples, Italy.

She classicly studied ancient Greek and Latin and later graduated at the Fine Arts Academy of Naples.

For many years she worked as a goldsmith and designer. Ruotolo's work is a broad range of pop art and art nouveau.

Her source of inspiration is the world that surrounds her.

In her work, there isn’t much distinction between high and low cultural level,

because she’s aware that the man lives in a myriad of sensory stimulation and is itself the

product of continuing contradiction between what is real and what is mere appearance or mere fiction.

We find echoes of these contradictions in her work in constant search of a balance between past and future.
