Lucy Hardie: Fine Artist. Ocean Grove, Victoria, Australia

Lucy Hardie: "For the first time in my life I realised there was nowhere else I wanted to be and nothing else I want to do. When I realised this, I just started laughing uncontrollably for about two days"

BPP: Who are you?  And who you really are?

Lucy Hardie: I’m Lucy. And Lucy is who I really am.
I’m an artist based in Ocean Grove, Australia.

BPP: If you could say something important to others who were listening, what would you tell them?

Lucy Hardie: I’d ask: "what do you see/experience when you look below the surface of the artwork?" I’d ask people to tell me more about that.

BPP: What is your true dream, the one that keeps you up at night and if one day it were to come true you would feel peace and calmness in your heart?

Lucy Hardie: My dream is to help others experience Life’s infinite beauty and mystery more deeply, to realise our already connected and free nature. I feel fulfilled and content just by doing my bit each day, by actively involving myself in the process of creation.

BPP: How is life currently for the people in your country and what would you wish for them and for the planet at large?

Lucy Hardie: By virtue of being Australian, we are counted among the world’s richest people. Just by living here, we’re granted opportunities that a lot of the world’s population only dreams of. We have laws to protect us, access to an abundance of natural resources, medical care, education and the freedom to pursue whatever path we may choose. I think life for Australians is grand.
I’d wish for Australians and the planet at large to find more reasons to accept each other. That’s all.

BPP: If you had a chance to be a child again would you choose the same life?

Lucy Hardie: Sure, why not? The experiences I’ve had have helped shape me into who I am. If it wasn’t for dark and painful times, I wouldn’t appreciate life the way I do now or experience as much joy in being alive.

BPP:  What was the exact moment that you realized what you wanted to do with your life?  How did you feel at this very moment?

Lucy Hardie: Knowing what I want to do in life has been a continual process of realising. I’ve always drawn and painted, but I connected more with a sense purpose in art in 2009 when I attended ‘Old Masters / New Visions’, a painting seminar in Austria run by US artist, Philip Rubinov Jacobson. I felt an affinity with Phil’s post conventional approach to art and creating. I also met some of his peers there, including Michael Fuchs and De Es Shwertberger. Spending time with these artists and creating with them, I felt like I’d come home. For the first time in my life I realised there was nowhere else I wanted to be and nothing else I want to do. When I realised this, I just started laughing. I laughed uncontrollably for about two days. The people I was with thought I was laughing at them, but it wasn’t personal. Everything just became suddenly and ridiculously hilarious to me.

BPP: Would you like to tell us something we didn’t ask until now?

Lucie Hardie:Thanks for taking the time to read this J
