BPP: Who you are?  And who you really are?

Jon Van Gilder: My name is Jon Van Gilder and I am a photographer living in Middle Tennessee.  I have been married for a very long time to the same woman and we have seven beautiful children. My wife is a wonderful help to me in my work.  My goal is to create photographs that display the beauty and wonder of this world.  This might be a landscape, a still life, or a portrait.  I love to photograph children.

BPP: If you could say something important you've learned all these years of your life, to the other people and they were able to listen to you, what would you like to tell them?

Jon Van Gilder: Learn to trust in your own vision of what is beautiful. The poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay said, “Beauty is whatever gives joy.” Too often wonderful work is discarded because a critic or even a friend does not see the true art that is present.  Believe in yourself.

BPP: What is your real dream, the one that keeps you awake at nights and if one day it will come true, you will feel your heart calm and peaceful?

Jon Van Gilder: My dream is to earn enough money to be able to continue my work as a photographer and put food on the table for my family.  This is most difficult in today’s world.  When one is able to work at the thing he loves – it is not work, but joy!

BPP:  How is life for the people in your country today? What do you wish to happen to them at to the people of this planet at large?

Jon Van Gilder: America is a country that knows great freedom and great riches, and yet there are many who have very little.  We must all work together to share the blessings we have with one another.  Within the freedom there must be harmony.

BPP: If you had the chance to be a child again, will you choose to do the same life you do?

Jon Van Gilder: Absolutely.  I would only wish that I had begun earlier to pursue my career as a photographer.

BPP: Which exactly was the moment you understood what did you want to do in your life? How did you feel at his very moment?

Jon Van Gilder: I knew that I would be a photographer very early on, although I pursued other things that were more practical for awhile.  I felt a great peace and excitement when I realized that I could spend my life working in photography.

BPP: Something yours: Do you want to tell us something we didn't ask you until now?

Jon Van Gilder: Beauty is all around us.  We must diligently learn to see it every single day and in all places!
